Why fundraise for our school library?
We are always looking for ways to expand our relatively new library collection and to support the very enthusiastic student readers at Bill Roberts School. Research has shown that the size and variety of a school library collection (along with staffing and instruction) have a direct impact on standardized test scores and overall student academic achievement (see the link for library statistics & impact). Also, the availability of a wide variety of interesting and current books in a range of reading levels encourages independant reading and learning. Following are some of the programs in place to raise money to buy books for our library:

Adopt-A-Book Campaign: adopt.a.book.jpg book_character.gif
This is a new program to help raise money for the Bill Roberts Library. A student and his or her family can decide to “adopt” any one of their favorite library books already in our library collection for a donation of $15.00 per book. This entitles the adopting student or family to place a special plaque inside the book with a customized message: “This book has been adopted by (name of the student or family name),” followed by a brief message of their choice. Examples might include: “In honor of John’s birthday” or “Dedicated to…” or “This book is special because…,” or "Adopted by Max, a car lover!", etc. The money collected will be used to purchase new books for our library collection which fill gaps in our collection, support classroom curriculum or are otherwise identified as a needed addition to our library. If you would like to adopt a book, stop by the library any time! Checks made payable to Bill Roberts School or cash are accepted and a tax receipt for your donation will be given to you. Then all you need to do is select a book for adoption.

Scholastic Book Fairs: bookfairday.jpg
The Roberts school library hosts 2 Scholastic Book Fairs throughout the year to raise money for our library. The first is held in the fall (usually November) and the second is held in the spring (usually late April or May). This is an opportunity for students to build their personal home libraries, generate excitement for books and reading, and raise money for our school library. All profits are used to buy books for our school library collection. Not only do the book fairs raise much needed money for our library, but statistics prove that each book fair promotes an additional 100,000 minutes of reading!

Watch for posters in school hallways and fliers which are sent home 2-3 weeks prior to each fair, as well as information posted on our school web site. Volunteers to help with the book fair are always needed and much appreciated (see the link for volunteers).
