Library Book Check-Out Policy, ECE-8th Grades:

All students at Roberts (ECE-8th grades) are encouraged to check out books every week. Every student has a unique student ID number which is also their library account number. The library system allows for a 2-week check out period. Since most students come into the library weekly for check out, they are encouraged to return books on their (weekly) assigned check-out day and then check out new books. Students are always allowed to renew books as needed.
ECE students do not have a regularly scheduled check out time, but are welcome to come into the library with their parents to check out books. The library will be open before school (from 8:00-8:15) and after school (from 3:15-3:45) on Tuesdays and Thursdays for ECE check out.

Kindergarten & 1st grade students must bring in a permission slip signed by a parent in order to check out books on their own during their library time. This is to make sure students and parents are aware of the replacement cost of lost books and to assist younger children with remembering their books on check out day. Kindergarten students are allowed to check out 1 book each week on their own. 1st grade students may check out 2 books per week. Please check with your child's teacher for the specific day/time your child has for book check out. Parents are always welcome to check out additional books with their child before and after school (8:00-8:15 am. & 3:15-3:30 pm.) on Tuesdays and Thursdays.2012-13 Kinder/1st grade permission form:
2nd grade students may check out up to 4 books per week.
3rd – 8th grade students may check out as many books as they like, within reason. Also, beginning in 3rd grade, students may check out 1 magazine per week. However, since students have a weekly check out time, I encourage them to check out only what they feel they can finish in one week.
Lost Books:The DPS district policy requires students who lose or damage school materials to pay for them. Students with lost or damaged library books will not be allowed to check out additional books from this or any other DPS school until payment is made. In general, the cost of a paperback book is $6.00 and the cost of a hardcover book is $15.00, although prices may vary depending on the individual title. Cash or checks payable to Roberts School are accepted and a receipt for payment will be given to the student.

If a student has an overdue library book, the librarian will send a friendly reminder notice home. If the book has been overdue for more than a month, the notice will also include the replacement cost of the book. If a parent is unable to make immediate payment, please contact the school librarian, Ms. Frachetti, to make arrangements for gradual payment of the book.
